Cristina is 64 and married with three children. Two of them are grown up and married. The other is still dependent and in school. Cristina is married to Felix and they live in Villa Sebastian Pagador, a highly populated zone in the south of the city of Cochabamba. She earns her living selling sacks for carrying agricultural products like potatoes, corn, vegetables, and grains. She has a stand in La Pampa, a really big market where they sell all kinds of retail and wholesale products.

Cristina needs a loan to do work on her house, which she and her husband have worked to build little by little over the years. She wants to use her loan to add some stairs because there are two floor levels between rooms and she's improving two rooms because they're run down by the weather; the last three months have been very rainy.

About Housing Loans

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
