Koeng, 39, is a mother of three dependent kids who are still in school. The rest of her family is residing in the Sangke district of Battambang province, where rice farming is the common business as the main source of income. To deal with the daily food consumption, she solely counts on a single business activity, rice farming, which she has been with for 10 years.
Koeng is a new client for VisionFund (Kiva’s partner). She is now taking out her first loan, which she will use to buy a plot of farmland for growing more paddy rice. She hopes that she will be able to enlarge her business and gain triple yield, so that she can sustain her lifestyle.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
