Ali is a 57-year-old married man from Lebanon. He is living with his wife and two children. One is working and the other is still attending school.
In 1990, in order to supplement the family’s income, he decided to start his own business as a farmer. He owns an orchard where he cultivates bananas and lemons.
Today he is asking to borrow a loan from Kiva partner Vitas s.a.l to purchase the required agricultural tools and supplies, such as seeds and fertilizers. He states that the loan will certainly help him increase his business productivity by a fair percentage, which will give him with higher profits. In the future, he plans to take more Kiva loans and expand his orchard with a wider variety of fruits and vegetables.
Due to political and social challenges in Lebanon, personally identifiable attributes entrepreneurs may have been altered to protect their privacy (i.e., blurring portions of the borrower's picture, not indicating a name and location, etc.). Vitas appreciates Kiva lenders' understanding of these challenges and encourages them to continue their support for Lebanon's borrowers.
