Living in a rural area located in Battambang province’s Thmor Koul district, Poch is a 49-year-old mother of eleven children, five of whom are still dependent on her and still in school. To support her big family, she has been struggling to feed her children by farming rice for 31 years. To supplement her income, her husband is a labourer.
This is the sixth loan for Poch with Kiva’s partner, VisionFund. She is now requesting a loan to buy fertilizer and rice seed for her farmland and use a portion of it to spend on renovating her old home. She hopes to earn a high crop yield from her rice paddy and also hopes to have a decent house for her family.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
