Shameem Group
In this Group: Shameem, Rubina, Misbah, Shabana, Asia, Farzana
Shameem, pictured raising her hand, is a 45-year-old hardworking and diligent woman. She lives in Rawalpindi, Pakistan with her husband and four children. Her husband has a welding shop, and one of her sons is a taxi driver. They are living in a rented house, and it's very difficult for them to pay their rent.

Shameem is a beautician by profession. Since 2009, she has been operating her own beauty salon. Currently, the salon is almost out of beauty supplies; therefore, Shameem wants to purchase new cosmetic products to continue her business.

As a member of a six-person lending group, Shameem has requested a loan from Kiva's partner BRAC Pakistan to purchase beauty products like facial creams, lipsticks, scrubs, makeup kits, hair colors, and other products. She would also like to buy some new chairs for her salon. With the profit, she would repay the loan and save to build a home with her husband. Shameem is very hopeful that the loan will be productive for them, and she is thankful to Kiva and BRAC Pakistan for their support.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
