A loan of $1,500 helped to produce papaya.

Ruben's story

Ruben, 64, lives in the town of Puerto Villarroel in tropical Cochabamba, in the Villa Flores Community. He began working very young, since he was an orphan. He has worked as a hired hand in different places in the tropics, growing all kinds of crops.

Ruben suffered considerably when his wife died, and he had to assume the responsibility for raising his children and providing for them. He had worked very hard on his father-in-law's farmland and then bought his own land and became independent. Little by little he was able to prosper, but had no other alternative than to work hard to do so, since the situation became harder and harder to endure.

Now, Ruben grows bananas but the prices dropped during the last season so he wants to produce other fruits.

He is requesting a loan to buy papaya plants to vary his crop production. He needs an impulse to keep growing. His life goal is to be an important papaya producer. With the loan he will be able to begin producing papaya.
