Samul, a rural villager from Kampong Cham province’s Prey Chhor district, is 29 years old and is married. She has two children who solely rely on her as they are still in school.
To feed her family, Samul grows rice and sells vegetables. This is her family's primary source of income. Her husband works as a paid worker for extra income. Samul has been in this business for 10 years.
Samul has never been with VisionFund (Kiva’s partner) before. She is applying for her first loan in order to buy a plot of farmland to expand her business. She hopes to increase her income and sustain her lifestyle.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
