Yaarura Group's story

Charles is a member of Yaarura Group, in Chwele District. The group is comprised of 10 One Acre Fund farmers, 6 women and 4 men. Charles is standing on the right, with his hand raised. He is receiving an agricultural input loan, which will include all the materials needed for ½ acre of sweet potato, millet, and sorghum cultivation. Charles first enrolled with One Acre Fund during the 2011 Long Rains and is now preparing to be a One Acre Fund farmer during the 2013 Long Rains season. Charles joined One Acre Fund in order to gain access to the best input prices, hybrid seed and fertilizer.

Charles described his harvest as good last year, but he believes he can have an even better one this year. He plans to use the money that he earns from his next harvest to send his children to school and to buy cattle. For the 2013 Long Rains season, Yaarura Group members will take input loans of ½ acre, each. In total, this group will receive input loans for use on five acres of land.
