A loan of $400 helped a member to purchase hybrid seed and fertilizer for the cultivation of millet, sorghum and sweet potatoes.

Hope Group's story

Dorine is pictured on the right with her hand raised amongst her Hope Group members. The ten of them, eight women and two men, are farmers in Teso District.

Farming inputs, consisting of the necessary materials to plant ½ acre of sweet potatoes, millet and sorghum, will be delivered to Dorine on credit. Dorine joined One Acre Fund during the Long Rains 2012, and is now enrolling in the Long Rains 2013 season. Dorine joined One Acre Fund so that she could access the best input prices and grow enough food for the family.

Prior to joining One Acre Fund, Dorine was only able to harvest 2½ bags of maize per ½ acre, but after joining One Acre Fund during the Long Rains 2012, she was able to harvest 5½ bags per ½ acre! She hopes that her profits from the 2013 Long Rains season can be used to send her children to school and repair her home.

During the 2013 Long Rains season, each group member will receive ½ acre of agricultural inputs on credit. Dorine’s group will receive 5 acres worth of inputs on credit.
