Safina Group's story

Jairus’s group has 13 farmers and is located in Chwele. Jairus is pictured on the right of Safina Group with his hand raised. Jairus is pictured with the four other men and eight women of his group. He will receive loans capable of planting 1/2 an acre with sorghum, millet, and sweet potato. Jairus first enrolled with One Acre Fund during the 2012 Long Rains season and is now preparing to be a One Acre Fund farmer during the 2013 Long Rains season. Jairus joined One Acre Fund in order to grow enough food for the family and to learn new farming techniques.

Jairus described his harvest as excellent last year as a One Acre Fund farmer and hopes for another good year in the 2013 Long Rains season. He plans to use the money that he earns from his next harvest to send his children to school and to save for the future. For the 2013 Long Rains season, Jairus’s group members will take input loans of 1/2 acre each. In total, this group will receive input loans for use on 6.5 acres of land.
