The community bank “Las Américas” (the Americas) was founded by 7 female members and 1 male member, all of who live in the city of Cuenca. This city is surrounded by beautiful countryside. There are many places to enjoy nature in Cuenca. The architecture is a mixture of colonial an modern and it is the third most important city in terms of the economy of the country. The people have warm hearts and they are hardworking and they all have in common that they want to improve the income of their households and get ahead. They maintain their culture and traditions of their town.

One o the members of the group is Julia. She is a very active member and collaborator who is realizing her second loan along with her friends from her communal bank “Las Américas.”

Julia is 48-years-old, she is married, and she has two children that are 25 and 15 years old. Her first son lives along and her second son is studying in college in the city. Her husband lends his services as a security guard. They do not have their own home, instead they live in a house that their family member has lent them.

Julia is busy with the household duties and also for the past year she works in the sale of natural products. She works Sunday to Sunday without a fixed schedule.


She will use her new loan to invest in the purchase of natural products to continue to grow her business.

El banco comunal Las Américas está formado por 7 socias y 1 socio quienes viven en la ciudad de Cuenca, esta ciudad se encuentra rodeado por bellos paisajes, tiene varios lugares para disfrutar de la naturaleza, su arquitectura es una mezcla de lo colonial y lo moderno y es la tercera ciudad de mayor importancia económica del país. Su gente tiene un corazón muy cálido, es gente trabajadora que tienen algo en común y es mejorar la economía de sus hogares y salir adelante, aun mantienen la cultura y tradiciones de su pueblo.

Una de las socias de este grupo es la Señora. Julia, es una socia muy activa y colaboradora que se encuentra realizando su segundo crédito a lado de sus compañeras que conforman el banco comunal Las Américas.

La Señora Julia tiene 48 años, es casada y fruto de su unión conyugal ha concebido 2 hijos de 25 y 15 años de edad, su primer hijo vive independiente y su segundo hijo estudia en un colegio de la ciudad. Su esposo presta sus servicios como guardia de seguridad, no tienen casa propia por lo que viven en una casa que les ha prestado un familiar.

Doña Julia pasa al cuidado de su hogar y su familia, pero desde hace un año se decida a la venta de productos naturales, trabaja de domingo a domingo sin un horario.

Su nuevo crédito lo va a invertir en la compra de productos naturales para continuar creciendo en este negocio.
