María Elena
María Elena is a humble 25-year-old young woman with few resources. She was raised by a single mother who instilled in her good moral and religious principles.

For four years, María Elena has worked as an accounting assistant for a company in the city of El Sauce. She thanks God for having a decent job that allows her to pay for her education and provide for her household every day, since now it is she who supports her mother, who can no longer work.

María Elena's dream is to have her Public Accounting degree. She is currently in the final year of the degree program, so she is requesting a Kiva loan through Ceprodel to pay the processing fees associated with her diploma. With her degree, she will have a better position in society and therefore a better income. She trusts in God that her request will be approved so that she can realize her dream.

This loan is administered by Centro de Promocion del Desarrollo Local (CEPRODEL), one of Kiva’s larger partners in Central America. Founded in 1991 and based in Managua, Nicaragua, CEPRODEL specializes in the development and funding of housing cooperatives for traditionally marginalized communities, the provision of microfinance services to small businesses, and the promotion of innovative renewable energy projects. In addition, unlike many microfinance institutions in the area that have chosen to avoid the rural areas of the country due to the increased financial risk, CEPRODEL provides financial services to numerous clients in the agriculture and livestock industry. Supporting a borrower through CEPRODEL means contributing to the promotion and sustainability of this important work in Nicaragua.
