Esther lives in Kampala, Uganda. She is a widow with three children, all of whom attend school. She is also looks after another family member (a younger brother).
She has been operating a small eating place from the market for three years, working six days a week. She has no other source of income.
Esther has requested a loan of UGX 500,000 from MCDT- SACCO to be able to purchase ingredients such as salt, cooking oil, dried peas and beans and to replace some worn out utensils. Her challenges include seasonality, defaulters and transportation. Esther's dream is to own a fully stocked restaurant and to buy a piece of land and build premises where to operate from. She joined MCDT because of low interest charged on loans. Esther rents a house without access to either electricity or piped water. Her major monthly expenses include school fees and rent.
