Maria Romana
Maria is a married 35-year-old woman, persistent and strong, with a strong desire to improve herself. From her marriage, she has six children, four of which live under the same roof with her. They study in the morning and help their parents in the pineapple fields in the afternoon, once they leave their school activities. She studied in primary school for five years, for which she is thankful for the effort required by her parents to support her so that she would have some basic knowledge. It was her parents who taught her from very young to cultivate pineapple and now, along with her husband, she performs this activity, which is the livelihood of her family. She also sells the same product in the local market, the vicinity, and to family members, neighbors, and intermediaries who know her product for its quality, transparency, and quality. The land that she works is her own since she inherited it from her parents. It is located 15 kilometers from her home to which they go in their own vehicle daily.

Currently, she is applying for help for the purchase of manure and fertilizers for her pineapple crops, which will help her to keep them healthy and clean of infestations and other things that damage the crops.

Her dream is to always keep her land clean and healthy so that her sown fields and crops are always productive, since it is through them she will be able to support her children in their studies and, once graduated, with their useful university studies. It is her children that will inherit what they are creating and building today.

More information about this loan

These loans are designed for female farmers who produce a variety of products (onion, garlic, eggplant, spinach, mango, strawberries, etc.). Loan terms will vary depending on need, and borrowers can choose to make a "bullet" payment timed with harvest profits. Agricultural loans are considered risky in Honduras due to external forces like unpredictable weather and worldwide crop prices. As a result, many traditional financial institutions are unwilling to offer these loans. With Kiva funding, COMIXMUL will be able to reach more borrowers with agricultural loans tailored to their needs.
