Sabougnouma Group

The Sabougnouma Group is made up of six married women with an average age of 34 years and an average of four children. They live in traditional extended families with their husbands, co-wives, brothers and sons in the Massablacoura district of the city of Bougouni. They know one another through ties of vicinity, friendship and commerce. To increase their financial capacity and improve their businesses, they joined the microfinance institution Soro Yiriwaso and are on their first loan cycle.

This group does business selling flour through Badjene, shown second from the right in the photo. Badjene buys and sells flour, and with this loan she plans to purchase 300 Kg of flour from the merchants in Bamako. She sells her flour from her home, at retail, for cash and on credit to a clientele composed mainly of women. Badjene expects to make an average monthly income of 17,500 FCFA, which she will use to reinvest in her business and repay her loan.

Le groupe SABOUGNOUMA est constitué de 6 femmes toutes mariées ayant une moyenne d’âge de 34 ans et 4 enfants. Elles vivent dans des familles traditionnelles élargies avec leurs maris, coépouses, frères et fils dans le quartier Massablacoura de la ville de Bougouni.
Elles se sont connues à travers des liens de voisinage, d’amitié et de commerce. Pour renforcer leur capacité financière afin de mieux faire leur commerce, elles ont adhéré à l’institution de microfinance Soro Yiriwaso avec laquelle elles sont à leur premier prêt. Ce groupe de femmes fait le commerce de farine à travers BADJENE,elle est la deuxième femme de la droite vers la gauche. Elle fait l’achat vente de farine et compte acheter avec son prêt 300Kg farine avec les commerçants de Bamako. Elle effectue ses ventes à domicile, en détail au comptant et à crédit à une clientèle composée essentiellement de femmes.
Elle envisage réaliser un bénéfice mensuel moyen de 17500FCFA qui sera investi dans les activités et rembourser le prêt.

Soro Yiriwaso is a microfinance institution that works primarily in rural and semi-urban areas of Mali to provide underprivileged communities with access to financial services.The organization facilitates access for disadvantaged clients, particularly women, to new resources and services, fostering solidarity and cooperation among its clients. Kiva lenders’ funds will enable Soro Yiriwaso to expand its outreach and target even more underserved Malians involved in business and agriculture.

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.
