Jose Nestor
José is a man of 68, and lives with his wife in the city of Pucallpa. He has six children, now adults, whom he loves and who are his main reason for living. He is a very friendly, hard-working and enthusiastic person, who with his wife has dedicated all his efforts to helping his family get ahead in life.

Unfortunately, due to lack of financial resources and because he needed to work from young age, José was not able to study to be a professional auto mechanic. In his free time he likes to cook a very delicious "Ají de Gallina," (traditional Peruvian dish, made with aji peppers, chicken, and a cream sauce) to share with his family.

Through his own initiative and with great deal of effort and dedication, José works in his small business selling plastic items. He works every day for approximately 10 hours, and carries on his sales using a small boat, which helps him to travel to small towns near his home. José believes that it is going well because of the good prices and the friendly way he serves his customers.

José is very grateful to the Kiva lenders, as thanks to the help provided he will be able to do improvements to his home. He wishes to buy wood, sheet metal roofing, nails, and other supplies that will be a great help to him in building onto the front part of his house. In this way he will be able to offer greater safety and well-being to his family.

José will continue working and doing his best to achieve his great dream of having a grocery store where he can work with his wife.

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
