Justin is a farmer in Nkubu, Central Kenya. He resides in his rural home with his family of three children, and carries out mixed farming, with fruit and vegetables being his main produce for the local market.
Justin has requested a loan of 60,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to buy poultry birds. He says that the diversification will help him have a more consistent income, despite fluctuations in climatic conditions which mainly affects crops in the area. He points out that poor rains and animal diseases are the main challenges in his farming business.
In the photo, Justin is pictured next to a dairy unit, although he is requesting funding for poultry.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
