Srean is a 30-year-old mother of four schoolchildren living in Kampong Cham province, Cambodia. From one hectare of cassava and one-and-a-half hectares of rice growing, she is able to earn up to 30,600 KHR per day.
A first time borrower with VisionFund (Kiva’s partner), Srean is seeking 2,000,000 KHR in order to buy potash, pesticide and rice seed, and to pay a plowing fee. She hopes to earn more income from her current business so that she can buy an additional plot of farmland for expanding her cropping business.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
