A widowed mother of four children, Heang is aged 44, living in a rural village of the Moung Russey district in Cambodia. Out of her four children, she still has two dependent children to take care of and they are still in school.

To support her big family, Heang grows pineapple as a primary source of income for the family and she has been in this business for ten years. Her current business now earns her about 25,000 KHR per day and she is able to save about 10,000 KHR each day.

Heang is in her first cycle with VisionFund. Now she is leading her group of three to apply for a loan. As the leader, she wants to use her portion to buy fertilizers for her pineapple. She hopes this loan will enable her increase her family’s income to make better living conditions.

VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.

Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
