Sophat, 52 years old and married, is a local resident from Ou Reang Ov district of Kampong Cham province. She has four children, one of whom is still in school and counts on her.
To strive for a living, she does rice cultivation, with support from her husband. To better feed the family, her husband also works for others for a fee, during his spare time. Engaging in the current business for ages, Sophat is able to earn up to KHR 25,000 per day.
Sophat’s prior loan was her original loan with VisionFund Cambodia (Kiva’s partner). She managed to gain a good yield from her crop, due to the prompt loan, which she has fully repaid.
Now, Sophat is seeking a new loan to buy a small computer for her son. She hopes that she can supply the study materials for her child in order to boost his knowledge.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
