Lawrence is a father of five adult children, save for the last one, who is still in school. He is himself aged sixty years and has been farming for over twenty years. He resides with his family in their rural home in Kitale where he carries out farming. Milk, poultry and vegetables are the main products which he sells to the local markets.
Lawrence has requested a loan of 40,000 KES from Juhudi Kilimo to help boost his poultry business. He remains optimistic that the loan will help him have a stable income to educate his last born child as well as improve his farming business.
Lawrence says the main challenges in farming come from the high cost of feed and animal diseases.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
