Esmeralda, a married mother of two, is 31 years old and resides in Tukuran, Zamboanga del Sur, where she owns farmland. She plants and harvests rice to sell to make a living. She has been in business for 5 years and earns about 40,000 PHP each month. Esmeralda joined GDMPC in 2009. She has requested a loan of 50,000 PHP to purchase fertilizer and pay for rice planting. She is hoping that her business will grow.
Gata Daku Multi-Purpose Cooperative (GDMPC) was founded in 1992 by 32 farmer-members to empower people by providing livelihood opportunities and other support services. Today, it has over 15,000 members located in upland, lowland and coastal regions of the Philippines, and offers credit, savings, education, and various social services.
