Victor produces pineapple, rice, and other products on a smaller scale for family consumption. His average annual sales include 18,000 units of pineapple grown on one hectare of land and 25 quintales (1 quintal = 100 kilograms) of rice that is grown on another hectare of land. Whatever he produces is sold from his farm or at the nearby market. This business activity has a regular season that lasts throughout the year.
The loan he is currently requesting will be used to expand and maintain his pineapple crop, which produces sufficient output to generate a good income. Victor’s resources are not sufficient to carry out all of his activities, so this current loan will expand and maintain his pineapple production. As a result, he can grow as a farmer.
About CIDRECIDRE is a Bolivian microfinance institution with a strong social commitment to the community. It works to provide quality financial services to rural and peri-urban borrowers, focusing primarily on agricultural loans for dairy farmers and micro-enterprises. CIDRE targets segments of the population that have not traditionally had access to credit, and invests in much-needed community development projects.
