A 47-year-old mother of six kids residing in Pursat province, Chanthorn struggles to support her big rice farm. Besides helping in the rice field, her husband hires himself out to others to help support the family. Chanthorn has had her business for 10 years, earning about 20,000 KHR per day. This is her fifth loan from VisionFund (Cambodia); she has completely repaid back her past loans. The past loans helped her to grow her business especially in purchasing fertilizer to boost her farm's productivity. For this loan cycle, Chanthorn will use her loan to pay for her child’s wedding. She hopes that she can fulfill her responsibility as the mother and arrange a proper wedding for her child.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
