A single woman, aged 28 and residing in the Bakan district of Pursat province, Samun is a rice farmer on four hectares of farmland. This is the only business that she has owned for many years; it brings in about 43,800 KHR per day. This is her third loan from VisionFund (Kiva’s partner). The past loans, which she has repaid back completely, have helped Samun earn a decent income to improve her standard of living.
Now she needs working capital to support her business. She is applying for a new loan in the amount of 4,000,000 KHR to buy gasoline for her mini tractor and to buy two sacks of fertilizer to boost her crop productivity. Samun hopes that she can earn more profit and improve her living standards.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
