Chan, a married mother of three kids, is a local farmer from the Moung Russey district of Battambang Province. She makes a living through rice cultivation and pineapple growing, from which she is able to earn up to 22,500 KHR (Cambodian riels) per day.
This is the second loan for Chan with VisionFund, Kiva’s partner. The past loan, which she has repaid, has successfully supported her life as well as her business at a good pace. Now, she is in need of working capital to support her farmland. Therefore, she applied for a new loan in the amount of 4,000,000 KHR in order to buy potash, and to pay other necessary fees, including the plowing fee and labor fee. She hopes that she can gain a high yield from her crops so that she can sustain her living conditions.
About VisionFund Cambodia
VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.
Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
