Asiya is a 34-year-old young woman with three children. She is very kind, caring and also very energetic in her work. Asiya raises cattle, fattens them and sells them for a profitable price. Her husband is the major support for her in this business.
Asiya sells meat at the central bazaar for a profit. In Azerbaijan, there is a high demand for meat, because it is used in a lot of dishes, such as 'kufta' (soup), kababs, 'dolma', etc. Her income from this business is 200 AZN per month. In order to fully support the family, Asiya is looking forward to expanding the business and making it a very successful business.
She has for the second time applied for a loan of 2000 AZN with Aqroinvest, to buy two calves. At this very young age and with a great passion and energy, Asiya plans to become a successful businesswoman in the town. Her good client history is a little proof of this.
Aqroinvest Credit Union was founded in 2001 by a group of 32 farmers from Imishli. It has since grown to become the largest credit union in Azerbaijan, owned by its more than 5,400 borrowers and boasting a portfolio of nearly US$12 million.
AqroInvest is focused on providing loans to the following groups of people: rural farmers, people living in distant southern villages with little or no access to finance and internally displaced people and refugees, many of whom lost their homes and livelihoods during the violent conflicts in the 1990s.
In May 2011, Aqroinvest started a new project with Kiva proving higher education loans to students. The project gives students the support and financing they need to continue their education and helps pay for tuition fees at various universities in Azerbaijan. Aqroinvest is the first credit union in the country to offer students loans.
