Musa
Musa is a 28-year-old farmer and married father of two children. He grows maize, beans, coffee and bananas. He also tends to chickens and pigs. Musa looks forward to becoming a community knowledge worker (CKW) so he can help to control pests and diseases on farms in his village.

As a CKW, he will use the materials in his business-in-a-box (smartphone, solar charging set and weighing scale) to disseminate vital agricultural information to the other members of his village, helping them to improve their crop yields and to increase their incomes.

With the additional money that he will earn as a CKW, Musa will expand his farm, which is his biggest dream for the future.

More information about this loan

This loan is part of Grameen Foundation's AppLab program and Community Knowledge Worker initiative, providing borrowers with mobile phones, solar chargers and other equipment to become knowledge centers for their smallholder farming communities.

With these tools, community knowledge workers can help their neighbors access information and advice to improve their crop yields, connect with markets and generate more income. They can also conduct mobile surveys to help local organizations better meet farmers' needs. Community knowledge workers make monthly salaries based on the number of surveys they collect, enabling them to repay Grameen for the equipment.
This Kiva loan will be used to provide borrowers with needed goods or services, as opposed to cash or financial credit
