Virginia is 60 years old and widowed with two children. She lives in Aurora, Zamboanga del Sur. To earn a living, she is running a retail business in the local community. She has been in her business for over eight years and earns 5,000 Philippine pesos (PHP) every month. She joined GDMPC in the year 2010, and now she has requested a loan of 7,000 PHP to purchase additional products to sell like canned goods, coffee, sugar, soap and shampoo. She plans to use the additional revenue generated from the business to improve the general living conditions of her family.
Gata Daku Multi-Purpose Cooperative (GDMPC) was founded in 1992 by 32 farmer-members to empower people by providing livelihood opportunities and other support services. Today, it has over 15,000 members located in upland, lowland and coastal regions of the Philippines, and offers credit, savings, education, and various social services.
