Abdulla is 55 years old and has three children. For the past 18 years, he has been raising cattle and selling their milk. Milk is a very popular drink among local people. They prepare different products from it, such as yogurt and cheese. These products are in high demand because of their health benefits.
Abdulla is a retired person with an income of 250 AZN from this business. His son is helping him in running the business. Regardless of the difficulties of raising cattle, Abdulla is a very positive man. He really counts on his son to expand the business and make it bigger in the future. He has applied for a loan of 1,500 AZN from Aqroinvest, in order to buy two calves and a cow. He has plans to expand the business and to meet the high demand for milk in the market.
Aqroinvest Credit Union was founded by a group of 32 Imishli farmers in 2001, and has grown to become one of the largest credit unions in Azerbaijan. It boasts a portfolio of nearly $5 million and is wholly owned by its more than 3,500 borrowers, as of December 2011.
