Lily Lom Group
In this Group: Hoineilhing, Hoinu, Lhingneng, Boinu, Hechong
Hechong is one of the member of Lily Lom and she is featured with her hand raised. Hechong and her husband live in a village with their three kids. As a saying goes, “Beggars can’t be choosers,” and this applies to Hechong. She takes up all possible ways of earning, say for example cutting trees for firewood, construction of roads, and farming in the jungles. Her income generating activities are undependable and unreliable.

Hechong wants to get the loan and start her own business by selling vegetables in the nearby market . She firmly believes that this will enable her to earn more on a daily basis and have some savings because it is a non-seasonal business activity. She wants to give a better education to her kids as she was deprived of this facility when she was a kid. She narrates the disadvantages and obstacles she faced in regards to running the family since she is not educated.

Hechong is elated to share her dreams as she assures herself that she will work with her heart and soul for her dreams to come true. She wants to thank WSDS for the assistance and wishes to continue working with the organisation.

The rest of the group members are active in selling vegetables and charcoal.

Important note about this loan

About WSDS-Initiate
WSDS-Initiate is an inclusive nonprofit that works with women across all tribes and minority communities in Manipur, located in the remote northeast region of India. Most organizations concentrate their work in the plains region of Manipur, but WSDS is among the very few organizations serving women in the isolated hills. Political unrest and frequent economic blockades in the area make it very difficult to provide services, resulting in Manipur having the lowest penetration of financial services in the country.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
