Bertha Patricia
Bertha has lived in this city for forty years. You could say she has lived here all her life, because that is really the case. She is very dedicated to her job - where she has been working for two years - and of course to her family. She has two children, and that is why she is asking for help through Kiva. She wants to finish building a room for her older son to use as a bedroom, so that each sibling can have their own space.

Bertha manages a very well-known retail store. She is planning to pay back this loan with the income she makes from this retail business, where one of her children also works. They are a great family, very hardworking and responsible, and they want to get ahead. Through much effort, Bertha and her husband have been able to build their house little by little.

This will be her second loan obtained through Kiva.

About Housing Loans

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
