Verano Group
In this Group: Silvia, Cirilo, Nicolasa, Victorina, Josefina, Claudia Ines, Abimael
The group "Verano" ("summer") is comprised of five women and two men. All of them are responsible people who have known each other for several years, having grown up in the same community. They chose the name of the group because they wanted to name it after one of the seasons of the year. The members of the group are very happy and grateful to the institution, since thanks to this loan, they will be able to invest in their businesses.

Victorina, Nicolasa and Cirilo will invest in chickens. Josefina will invest in quilts, Abimael will invest in her taxi and Sylvia will invest in sweets for resale.

Claudia, who is a representative of the group, is 19 years old and has been married to Fernando for one year. Fernando works in construction. At this point they do not have children. For the time being they are living in the house of Fernando's parents. Claudia says that the two of them have decided to seek a loan in order to buy chicks that Claudia will be in charge of raising. When they are grown and fattened, they will be able to sell them to their neighbors in their community.

She adds, "For me it is very easy to sell them since the same neighbors already ask us if we have chickens to sell them. In this area, people prefer home-raised chickens over those that are sold in the market." She already has experience raising chickens. Her only difficulty, which she is now in the process of overcoming, is the lack of a good corral for her chicks. However, with her first earnings she will be able to make improvements to her corral so that no chicks will get sick and die. Her goal is to have her own home and grow her business. Like the other members of the group, Claudia is very grateful to Vision Fund and Kiva for this loan opportunity.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
