Ma. Luisa is 44 years old, married with three children. She lives in Clarin, Misamis Occidental. She owns and operates an agricultural plot where she is planting and harvesting coconuts to earn a living. She has been with her business for over five years and earns 3,000 PHP (Philippine pesos) every month.
She has joined GDMPC in the year 2010, and now she has requested a loan of 4,500 PHP to purchase fertilizer such as manure. Luisa plans to use the additional revenue generated from the business to improve the general living conditions of her family.
Gata Daku Multi-Purpose Cooperative (GDMPC) was founded in 1992 by 32 farmer-members to empower people by providing livelihood opportunities and other support services. Today, it has over 15,000 members located in upland, lowland and coastal regions of the Philippines, and offers credit, savings, education, and various social services.
