Matluba is a 35-year-old woman. She is married and has three beautiful children. Recently, her husband left for Russia to earn money and in order to buy a ticket Matluba had to sell cattle. Her husband promised to send money as soon as he found a job. But while her husband is not sending money, Matluba on her own needs to earn a living for herself and her children.

Her household has a few head of cattle. They can not be sold for now because they are not sufficiently fattened. Therefore, she turned to Arvand to get a loan for the purchase of cattle. In a few weeks, she will be able to sell her fattened cattle and, with the profits, to improve her life and to develop her business.

About MDO Arvand

MDO Arvand is one of the leading microfinance institutions in Tajikistan, offering small loans to entrepreneurs to start and grow their businesses. This makes an enormous difference in a country, which is not only the poorest in Central Asia, but also home to a population where two-thirds live below the poverty line. Today, Tajikistan's economy literally depends on remittances being sent from family members working abroad in Russia because there are so few local job opportunities.

But Arvand loans have been able to make a difference and change lives. Read about some of the incredible success stories they have seen here in this Kiva blog post: Bringing hope to Tajikistan with Arvand -- one success story at a time.
