Saade
Saade, 45, is a proud female member of Babban Gona. As a maize farmer in Kwatau village in Nigeria, prior to Babban Gona Saade was struggling to support her family of five with her low yields from her land. As a member of Babban Gona, she has experienced an increase in yields and profitability. This year Saade, like all Babban
Gona members, has the opportunity to increase her yield and profit to 3 times as much as the average farmer. A Babban Gona loan will ensure that she is able to access the high quality inputs she needs to increase her yield this season as well as the storage services that give her the opportunity to sell her produce in a premium market. Saade is proud that she can set a good example for her children and hopes to work hard and to grow her business to make her children proud. Through her membership in Babban Gona, Saade has recognized the importance of health and hopes to see her children acquire health education as well as maintaining good health through the toxin-free maize that she now grows. Looking towards the next five years, Saade hopes that she can
work to support other small-scale farmers in rural areas similar to her village.

More information about this loan

This loan is aimed at helping smallholder farmers. The farmers are divided into Trust Groups and deliver training and development services, inputs like seeds on credit and post-harvest marketing services. This Kiva loan will thus be used to provide borrowers with needed goods or services, as opposed to cash or financial credit. This system increases farmers’ yields up to 4 times the national average. In addition, Babban Gona markets its farmers’ produce to premium markets over the course of the year, ensuring that they receive the best price possible for their produce and have a steady flow of income year round. Kiva loans are used to help Babban Gona expand its services to more rural areas in Northern Nigeria. Babban Gona posts loans before the inputs are provided so there is a chance that farmers will change their input package after the loan is posted. As a result, the loan amount may slightly change after you fund the loan, and any difference will be repaid to you when the first loan repayment is made. By supporting this loan, you’re providing farmers with the opportunity to increase their yields.
