Choum
A 55-year-old mother of nine kids, residing in the Moung Russey district of Battambang Province, Choum is a farmer who manages two hectares of rainy season rice-growing and a three hectare area of dry season rice cropping. This primary source of income, which she has been involved with for 20 years, has returned her about 30,000 KHR per day to supply the daily food consumption for the family.

This is not the first loan for Choum with VisionFund (Kiva’s partner). She is pleased with her previous loans because they have supported her business and improved her lifestyle. Now, she is seeking a new loan in order to pay a plowing fee and to buy potash. She hopes this loan will help her to grow her rice fruitfully and bring her a good yield.

The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.

Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
