This group was formed on the 7th of July, 2011, the same day that the Nimzatt Sagatta "banc villageois" was created. It is made up of 30 women who all come from the same village and enjoy close bonds of family and friendship. The group's representative, Awa, is 30 years old, single and has no children. She breeds sheep and sells sweets at the Keur Momar market and the village school. She is the one standing on the far right of the picture with her hand raised. She hopes to use her loan to buy 2 sheep, so that she can fatten them up and then resell them. She would like to use the profits she makes to build up a certain level of savings that would allow her to benefit from a higher loan.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
