Sry is a married woman with seven children. She is a rural farmer living in the Dambae district of the Kampong Cham province in Cambodia. Two of her children are still in school, so they are dependent on her.

For ten years, Sry has worked as a farmer. She has three hectares planted with rice, and two with beans. Sry has borrowed from VisionFund before, and fully repaid her loan. Her previous loan enabled her to provide sufficient daily food for her family.

Now, Sry is asking for a loan with one other women. She will use her portion to buy fertilizer and pesticide for her farm. Sry hopes that the loan will enable her to generate more income from her current business to protect her living standards.

VisionFund Cambodia is a Christian organization and microfinance institution that provides small loans and other financial services to improve the lives of children, empower poor women and their families, and grow successful businesses. The organization works primarily in rural parts of Cambodia and has distinguished itself by targeting the very poor who require smaller loan sizes, regardless of religious beliefs, gender or ethnic background.

Kiva lenders’ funds will help the organization to expand into the northeastern provinces of the country, which have historically been underserved and difficult to reach with financial services.
