Antoine lives in Les Cayes, the capital of the South Department of Haiti with his wife and child. He has had a business in the city for 3 years and he has started to sell clean energy products with EarthSpark. He was really interested in selling kerosene stoves as many people in Les Cayes use charcoal stoves which are not only expensive, but cause pollution and are bad for their users’ health. He wants to continue to sell clean energy products because they contribute to protecting the environment in Haiti.
With his first Kiva loan, Antoine was set up with a “Business in a Bag”, a kit containing a personalized mix of small-scale clean energy products, marketing materials and training on energy literacy, SMS tracking of sales, and basic business skills. He used this “business in a bag” to launch a clean energy entrepreneurship with EarthSpark. He sold out of his products so quickly that he has paid off his loan and is now coming back to us for another loan. This time, he would like to continue his business and is asking again for
400 USD. With this money, he will continue to sell kerosene stoves.
