Good Women Group's story

Pictured here are the members of the “Good Women” group from Koidu, a city in eastern Sierra Leone. They are petty-businesswomen who have come to SMT, a partner of Kiva.org, in order to seek a loan in the amount of 500,000 SLL for each woman in the group. With this loan, they will be able to add more goods to their respective businesses, attract more customers, make more sales and profits, and consequently improve their living conditions.

The leader of this group of entrepreneurs is Kumba. Kumba was born in the Sandor, in eastern Sierra Leone, 38 years ago. She is married and has three children. Her husband is a businessman and her children are currently attending primary and secondary schools. Kumba has been selling ready-to-wear goods, such as clothing and shoes, for many years now. With her share of this loan, she plans on buying additional cloth, clothes, shoes, and other goods in bulk to add to her current stock.
