Chhem C., 26, is married and lives with her husband and two young children in the Kampong Cham province. She works as a rice farmer and also sells the rice in the market, making about $2 each day. Her husband is a construction worker who makes around $3 each day. The weather conditions have not been favorable for farming in Cambodia this past year and inflation has caused food prices, especially rice, to skyrocket. These factors have played into a difficult economic year for many Cambodians, Chhem C. included. In light of the struggling economy, she is asking for a loan in the amount of $550 to purchase a cow to plow their farmland. She sees an opportunity to increase her income and believes that plowing the land will be a valuable investment.
