Vek L., 58, is married and lives with three of her children in the Kampong Cham province. She is a farmer, making US$2 every day, and her husband grows vegetables, making approximately US$3 each day. They are also supported by two of the children who are employed. The weather conditions have been difficult for farming in Cambodia this past year and rising inflation has affected all Cambodians. These factors have made a difficult economic year for much of the country, Vek L. included. In light of the country’s economic difficulties, Vek L. is seeking to increase her income and expand her land. She is asking for a loan of US$1000 to purchase more land to grow rice. With this new land she believes she will see an increase in her income and her standard of living will be raised.
