Chhea Y., 54, is a widowed farmer who lives with her only daughter. Living in the Kampong Cham province, she typically makes US$1 every day and is aided by her daughter who works in a garment factory. The Kampong Cham area has not seen favorable weather conditions for farming this past year. Along with increased inflation, it has been a difficult year economically in much of Cambodia. As a farmer, Chhea Y. is taking a lot of the brunt of the economic downturn. That is why she has approached CREDIT with a request for a loan. Chhea Y. is asking for a loan of US$300 to purchase of fertilizer, a purchase that she sees as a good opportunity to increase her income.
