Ton
Ton lives together with his wife and their children, in a thatched house in Prey Chor district, Kompong Cham province. He is 43 years old and is involved in agribusiness -- specifically, growing rice on his own paddy fields, twice a year. He has spent more than 20 years making improvements to his farming business and ensuring the overall welfare of his family. He has his wife, who always works alongside him, and together they can make around KHR 15,000 per day.

Ton has come to visit HKL for his first loan, part of which he will use to dig a well adjacent to his house, in order to get enough water for his family's daily consumption, such as drinking, cooking, and washing. The remaining funds he will use to build a bathroom, where the family will be protected when they are having a bath or using the toilet. He is very happy to have financial assistance from Kiva lenders.

About HKL

Hattha Kaksekar Limited is one of the largest and most successful microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Cambodia. The organization provides microfinance services to the poor, particularly women, in urban and rural areas. Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to expand the outreach of HKL’s financial services to a greater number of clients in rural areas of Cambodia.

About Housing Loans

Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
