More information about this loan
This loan is part of CEPRODEL's initiative to expand access to sanitation facilities. Working with the World Bank and local governments, CEPRODEL offers these loans to help clients buy environmentally-responsible toilets, sinks, and shower/bath systems. Eligible recipients include clients and families who live in very poor regions of Nicaragua, lack access to water, or are employed making handicrafts or as roving salespeople. Along with these loans, clients receive environmental education training from the World Bank to better understand how plumbing interacts with the local ecosystem. By supporting this loan, you are making a difference in a country where 48% of the population lacks access to proper sanitation.
About CEPRODELThis loan is administered by Centro de Promocion del Desarrollo Local (CEPRODEL), one of Kiva’s larger partners in Central America. Founded in 1991 and based in Managua, Nicaragua, CEPRODEL specializes in the development and funding of housing cooperatives for traditionally marginalized communities, the provision of microfinance services to small businesses, and the promotion of innovative renewable energy projects. In addition, unlike many microfinance institutions in the area that have chosen to avoid the rural areas of the country due to the increased financial risk, CEPRODEL provides financial services to numerous clients in the agriculture and livestock industry. Supporting a borrower through CEPRODEL means contributing to the promotion and sustainability of this important work in Nicaragua.
