Martirez has been farming for 12 years and grows coffee. Whatever he produces is sold to brokers in the area. He has done a good job of maintaining his crops as a result of investing several loans. Martirez has participated in 11 loan cycles and his current loan is in the amount of 20,000 HNL. The money will be used to buy compost, fertilizers, and to pay to have his farmland cleared. He hopes this investment will result in a good harvest. His plan is to maintain his farm so that his earnings can help him achieve a better quality of life.
