Luis Javier, 27, is a man committed to his work. He has worked in agriculture and ranching since his childhood, because of family tradition. Currently, he works in ranching, work which lets him generate income to support his parents, who are elderly and in delicate health. Every day, he gets up at four in the morning to start work and he finishes up at four in the afternoon. He says that the fields have been and will be his best home. He is grateful to his parents for all they have given him and thinks that the best repayment he can offer is his love. He dreams of having more livestock to improve the dairy and earn more income, with which he can guarantee his parents an old age without financial concerns. This is why he is asking for a loan, which he hopes will finance the purchase of livestock, since he doesn't have his own resources for this investment.

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
