Marvin Antonio, from El Sauce, is 58 years old and married. He has worked for almost all his life as a primary teacher: He has a lot of experience in this field and on many occasions has received the prize for best primary teacher in the municipality.
He has to give classes in a community very far from his home and although he has to cycle to work because it is a difficult area to access, he is very happy teaching the children in the community to read and write because the are very poor and often do not have enough to eat every day. Nevertheless they work hard to do well.
Marvin is applying for a loan to have some dental work done as recently he has had problems with his teeth. He wants to be seen by a dentist soon so he can avoid serious consequences.
He trusts in God that Kiva lenders, through Ceprodel, will help him with the loan so he can have this work done..It is expensive and he cannot afford it on his salary.
This loan is administered by Centro de Promocion del Desarrollo Local (CEPRODEL), one of Kiva’s larger partners in Central America. Founded in 1991 and based in Managua, Nicaragua, CEPRODEL specializes in the development and funding of housing cooperatives for traditionally marginalized communities, the provision of microfinance services to small businesses, and the promotion of innovative renewable energy projects. In addition, unlike many microfinance institutions in the area that have chosen to avoid the rural areas of the country due to the increased financial risk, CEPRODEL provides financial services to numerous clients in the agriculture and livestock industry. Supporting a borrower through CEPRODEL means contributing to the promotion and sustainability of this important work in Nicaragua.
