Graciela del Carmen is a native of the Río Grande region. She is from a hamlet located 10 kilometers from the municipality of El Sauce, which is surrounded by a fantastic and enormous river.
Graciela del Carmen is a single mother of three children, two of whom are still her dependents. One of these is in primary school and the other is in university. Despite having raised her children by herself, she has tried to give them the best with her primary school teacher’s salary. She has been a primary school teacher since she was very young. Throughout the years she has fought to prepare her children to be good people and to be able to look after themselves in the future.
Graciela del Carmen is requesting a loan to buy school supplies and to pay for a number of months of university tuition. She does not want this to be an obstacle that could prevent her son from finishing his university degree. She says that she trusts in God that Kiva lenders will grant her this loan through CEPRODEL and she thanks them in advance for the support they have provided to many families in need like hers. She says that these loans help to meet so many household expenses that are often not possible to cover with one’s salary.

This loan is administered by Centro de Promocion del Desarrollo Local (CEPRODEL), one of Kiva’s larger partners in Central America. Founded in 1991 and based in Managua, Nicaragua, CEPRODEL specializes in the development and funding of housing cooperatives for traditionally marginalized communities, the provision of microfinance services to small businesses, and the promotion of innovative renewable energy projects. In addition, unlike many microfinance institutions in the area that have chosen to avoid the rural areas of the country due to the increased financial risk, CEPRODEL provides financial services to numerous clients in the agriculture and livestock industry. Supporting a borrower through CEPRODEL means contributing to the promotion and sustainability of this important work in Nicaragua.
